General Dental Practitioners are required to provide Registered Patients with an out-of-hours telephone number where patients can speak to a dentist within a reasonable period. This information is normally available on the answering machine of your dentist. Should the dentist decide treatment is required then this should be provided within a reasonable period, normally within 24 hours. Non-registered patients have no contractual rights to the above provision from individual general dental practitioners and may therefore have to contact a number of practices before they find a dentist willing to provide the necessary care.

It operates at the Dental Out-patients Department on the Ground Floor of the Belfast City Hospital Tower Block: Monday to Friday: 7.00pm to 8.30pm Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays: 10.00am to 11.30am; 2.30pm to 4.00pm; 7.00pm to 8.30pm Phone: 028 9026 3992 Patients should attend as early in a session as possible and bring their medical card. Only emergency or relief of pain treatment will be provided and normal Health Service charges will apply to those who are not exempt. No appointment is required.
Northern Health and Social Care Trust area	Relief of Dental Pain Clinic A Relief of Dental Pain Service is available to anyone who requires emergency dental care. It operates at the Dalriada Urgent Care Centre, Ballymena: Monday to Friday: 6.30pm to 9.30pm Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays: 9.30am to 12.30pm Patients must phone first on 0870 241 1437. In addition there is a dental service available for 2.5 days each week in the Ballymena centre for patients who are unable to obtain treatment with an NHS dentist. Southern Health and Social Care Trust area	Emergency Pain Relief Clinic An emergency pain relief clinic is available to anyone who requires emergency dental care. It operates in the Accident and Emergency Department at Craigavon Area Hospital: Monday to Friday: 7.00pm to 9.00pm Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays: 10.00am to 12.00 noon No appointment is required.
